Hollywood Bungalow Courtyards
Hollywood, California

These four bungalow courtyards represent a preservation goal for saving and reusing this type of historic urban courtyard housing with the mix of repetitive front cottages and larger attached units at the rear of a landscaped court and common walkways. Three of the courts are on one street in a national register eligible district and the fourth two blocks away. Each features a distinctive style including Bungalows, Mission and Spanish revival. The project completely rehabilitates the 42 one and two bedroom units into low income housing and restore the many characteristic bungalow features and details including restoring the special site features for each courtyard. Interior features including period cabinets and benches as well as decorative tile counters and Bath tub surrounds are rehabilitated and restored where missing. A Certified Historic Tax Credit project, it recived a California Preservation Foundation Award in 2010.
